I was always interested in the law but had a falsely glamourised view of lawyers from watching too many episodes...
Vidisha Joshi joined Hodge Jones & Allen in 2011 in the personal injury team. She was appointed Managing Partner in 2017.
Vidisha specialised in high value personal injury cases involving life changing injuries and is an advocate of rehabilitation and care packages funded by the defendants under the Rehabilitation Code.
She now leads the firm’s board providing strategic direction and overseeing the firm which employs over 230 people.
Under her leadership, the personal injury team was named “best” in the UK, winning Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards in 2016. More recently the firm has won Law Firm of the Year 2019 at the Lexis Nexis Legal Awards, as well as being shortlisted for London Law Firm of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2019.
Personally she was also recognised in 2017, as winner in the Professions category at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards and in 2017, featured in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 recognising the professions most preeminent lawyers. She was also ‘Highly Commended’ in the Excellence in Practice Management category at the Law Society Excellence Awards 2018.
Due to significant legislative reforms Vidisha has been instrumental in the firm’s Continuous Innovation Programme, ensuring the firm can continue to deliver on its founding values of ‘doing things differently’ and ‘fighting injustice’. As part of this innovative approach she was also instrumental in a change to the operating model of the firm moving from a traditional LLP to becoming part of an Employee Ownership Trust in 2018.
She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and the Law Society’s Civil Justice Council and Women in Leadership Program. She is also a champion of The First 100 years project, celebrating women’s role in the law, and is a passionate advocate for inspiring young people from all backgrounds to get into the law.
Vidisha is hugely passionate about promoting and encouraging diversity and inclusion. During her tenure she has introduced a number of measures within the firm to support this. She oversaw a transformation in the equality and diversity training to tackle issues such as unconscious bias and provide a greater overall understanding of the subject. She has championed an LGBT group within the firm. She was also the driving force behind the trainee blind recruitment which takes out education, demographic and socio economic factors so the best candidates get the roles regardless of background. She also mentors a number of aspiring lawyers from underprivileged backgrounds helping them understand her role with shadowing and regular coaching sessions.
She also supports the fundraising for various charities including the Child Brain Injury Trust, British Lung Foundation, Headway and Spinal Injury Association.
Membership & Appointments
Vidisha regularly visits the gym and likes to relax. She loves eating out with friends and visiting new restaurants.
