About Amara McCalla

Amara is a Solicitor at Hodge Jones & Allen, having joined the firm in September 2026. She qualified as a Solicitor in 2024 at a high street firm in Gloucestershire where she initially practised family law before developing a strong interest in criminal defence work and transitioning into criminal law in 2025 with the Public Defender Service.

Since moving into criminal practice, she has developed her expertise, becoming both Police Station Accredited and a Duty Solicitor within six months. She has experience representing clients across a broad range of criminal matters, including theft, assaults, actual bodily harm (ABH), grievous bodily harm (GBH), fraud, and murder.

Alongside her legal career, she has worked as a Youth Support Worker, helping and supporting young people placed in local authority care. This experience has given her valuable insight into the challenges faced by vulnerable young people and informs her approach to criminal defence work today.

She is committed to providing exceptional client care, offering clear and practical advice, and working tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcomes for her clients. She has a particular interest in representing young people and is passionate about supporting care leavers, ensuring they receive fair treatment and effective representation throughout the criminal justice process.
