Sexual freedoms are ever changing which means often the law can be slow to catch up which can be a problem for people working in the sex industry.

We have unrivalled experience and we are acknowledged as the only experts in the UK on the law of obscenity and obscene publications.

We have also advised a major university on the legality of its art collection and businesses on the contents of their websites.

Hodge Jones & Allen_Chambers 2023_pngOur Crime team have been ranked in the Chambers & Partners 2024 legal directory. The team was described as “extremely strong in terms of criminal defence and particularly protest cases” and were praised for their “dedication to clients”.

Why choose Hodge Jones & Allen?

Our team of sexual freedom solicitors have a long history of standing up for personal freedom and human rights. In a time of changing sexual mores, the criminal law doesn’t always keep up which means you might need support.

Our knowledge and experience means we can help you to challenge the law if you feel you have been treated unfairly in relation to any kind of sexual freedom.

“The most highly competent and experienced law firm I have encountered. You are treated as an individual with sensitivity and competence, which are rare qualities these days. I have no hesitation in recommending this company.”

R v Peacock

Our client was selling hardcore gay videos and was prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act. In a high-profile trial, a partner persuaded a jury that the graphic material was not likely to ‘deprave and corrupt’. Our client was acquitted.

R v Walsh

Police found a number of sado-masochistic photographs on our client’s computer which they claimed were extreme images contravening the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act. We called expert evidence to the contrary. Mr Walsh, a successful barrister, was acquitted and is now back in practice.
