Our client was a heating engineer working as a subcontractor. He was asked to pressure test some pipes, which required a visit to an external boiler room where the pressure gauges were located. When entering the boiler room for the first time our client found there was no lighting at all in the stairway area as the lights had all been removed. As he attempted to make his way down our client fell down the entire flight of stairs. Since his accident, lighting has been re-installed in the stairway.

Our client was employed as a cable installation technician. He was working on site installing signal cabling. He was asked by his supervisor to go down a 15 foot hole with some cables. There were foot wells down the hole for him to stand on however a sub-contractor has incorrectly tied rope to the foot well. The rope is normally used to assist in pulling the cables through the ducts, and is tied to a block of wood at the bottom of the hole. The rope is used to climb in/out of the hole.

As our client was stepping up to exit the man hole, as a result of the faulty rope he slipped and his body became tangled in the ropes twisting his body dislocating his knee and later being informed that he has a blood clot as a result we recovered over £60,000 for them as a result.

Our client was injured whilst at work. His job involved general yard duties, loading and moving steel sections and at the time of the accident he was assisting with moving and loading a very large section of steel onto a lorry. A forklift truck carried the main weight of the steel and our client was supporting one of the ends. As the forklift drove forward our clients thumb became trapped between the steel and the wall.

Our client worked as an engineer. Their role involved the fabrication of metal items in their workshop. At the time of the accident, our client was required to fit a new machine out on the work site. This was the first time he had been asked to do this and he did not have any training on how to fit a new machine. At the time of the accident the Claimant had spotted a suspected shoplifter. The suspect left the premises, the Claimant followed the suspect asking him to return to the store with him. As the Claimant held the suspects arm to escort him back to the store, the suspect head-butted him in the face. The accident resulted in injuries and losses.

As a result of the accident the Claimant sustained a severely broken nose requiring surgery. Further the Claimant has problems with his breathing due to the injury.

Circumstances of accident: The Claimant is employed by Data techniques as a cable installation technician. He was working on site at Silwood Sidings in Lewisham, installing signal cable. He was asked by his supervisor to go down a 15 foot hole with some cables. There were foot wells down the hole for him to stand on. However someone from one of the sub contractor companies had tied rope to the foot well. The rope is normally used to assist in pulling the cables through the ducts, and is tied to a block of wood at the bottom of the hole. However, on this occassion the ropes had incorrectly been tied across the hole and onto the foot well, which is used to climb in/out of the hole. The Claimant was stepping up to exit the man hole, and placed his right foot on the rung. Due to the ropes being tied to the footwell, he slipped and his body became tangled in the ropes which had been incorrectly tied across the manhole. As a result of his body twisting, his knee dislocated.

Nature of Injury
The client dislocated his left knee and sustained ligament damage. He has also been informed that he has a blood clot.
