Aika Stephenson, co-founder of children’s charity, Just for Kids Law, has been named as one of Britain’s top 50 part time executives in the 2014 Timewise Power List.
The Power Part Time List, published today, seeks out, identifies and celebrates successful trailblazers who work in senior high level, executive roles – and redefine what a part time job can be.
Aika was singled out for her Just for Kids Law work. Aika switched to part time work in order to set up the charity, after identifying a lack of holistic support for vulnerable children in the criminal justice system.
Just for Kids Law has since grown considerably and now employs frontline and managerial staff, allowing Aika to focus on developing the overall standard and ethos of the charity’s work.
Aika also has two young sons (aged 6 and 2) and continues to work part time as a lawyer for Hodge Jones and Allen Solicitors.
Just for Kids Law now helps over 700 young people each year. Aika is currently leading a community development pilot to help increase the reach of Just for Kids Law.
On being awarded a coveted place in the power list, Aika said: ‘Just for Kids Law has gone from strength to strength transforming the lives of some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in London. Without flexible working arrangements, the experience I bring to the charity would be lost.’
