Personal Injury Lawyer Of The Month: Claire Sadler

Claire Sadler is a chartered legal executive and runs a case load of personal injury claims, specialising in road traffic accidents. She started working as a Paralegal in the Personal Injury team in 2013 and qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in April 2020.

Which areas of the law do you specialise in?

I specialise in a wide range of personal injury claims, in particular road traffic accidents, accidents at work, occupier’s liability and slip and trip claims. I also have experience with road traffic accidents against uninsured and untraced drivers.

What do you enjoy about your work?

One of the best things about my work is the variety, no two cases or clients are the same. I enjoy working on a case from start to finish, building up a good working relationship with my clients to understand their needs and the outcomes they desire and negotiating a favourable settlement for them. Being able to help people during a difficult time of their life, support them through their rehabilitation and obtain the best possible settlement for them is very rewarding.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

I have been working at Hodge Jones and Allen for 10 years, initially as a Paralegal and then qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 which was one of my proudest moments.

Settling cases is always a highlight in my role. One particular settlement that springs to mind is a case I settled for an elderly gentleman who suffered facial injuries in a nasty bus collision. The incident really knocked his confidence and the psychological impact made it extremely difficult for him to even leave his house. As part of his settlement I was able to obtain funding for him to have counselling and it was heart-warming to hear from him after his case had settled that he was back up and about and travelling on buses again.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Hodge Jones & Allen?

My colleagues are incredibly supportive and I love being part of a team that is so passionate about their work and achieving best results for their clients. The vast experience of the team has helped me build and develop my career as a PI lawyer and it is a lovely firm to work for.

Can you tell us about the most interesting case you’ve worked on recently?

I am representing a client who was sitting in the living room of her rented home when the ceiling collapsed. She suffered concussion, multiple physical injuries and significant psychological symptoms. There was extensive damage to her belongings and as a result of the structure damage she had to move into temporary accommodation while the repairs were carried out.

Lastly, when you’re not at work, what do you like to get up to?

In my spare time I love to bake and have enjoyed baking birthday cakes and even a couple of wedding cakes for friends and family. I love the outdoors and enjoy running and going on long walks. I am also rather partial to a good gin & tonic!
