Civil Liberties Legal Assistant

We are looking to recruit a Legal Assistant to support our Civil Liberties team.
This role primarily involves a mixture of both administrative tasks and overseeing all new enquiries for the department.
Administrative duties include assisting the fee earners in all areas of office services, printing relevant documents, filing, scanning, photocopying, collating and paginating documents, assisting with the team diary and liaising with courts and clients.
New enquiry duties include receiving incoming calls from and making outgoing calls to potential clients seeking our services. Through careful listening and questioning, the Legal Assistant will gain an insight into the client’s requirements and assist as far as possible, e.g. taking the enquiry details, liaising with fee earners, arranging appointments, taking possible complaint calls etc. They will provide information on legal procedures, costs remedies and timescales to clients in line with legal best practices and principles. They will complete an accurate written attendance note of calls and ensure they are logged on our system.
Duties will vary in importance and priority, depending on circumstances and the needs of the business at any particular time.
You will need to have good administrative and literacy skills, be methodical, able to work in a team, use your initiative and have a flexible attitude. Working in an organised manner, paying attention to detail and good time management are important.
You will be part of a busy team and responsible for the smooth running of both client liaison and office administrative duties.
Good computer skills are essential, as is the ability to handle a high level of incoming and outgoing calls and interact with diverse cliental in a sensitive and professional manner. Therefore, excellent telephone manner with clear and pleasant verbal communication is required. You must have a positive, client focussed attitude and be able to discuss and understand complex legal situations with clients in both a sensitive and professional manner, utilising skills in discerning, deciding and differentiating between clients in a supportive and non-judgemental way.
