Sell-out ‘Resilience and Wellbeing’ event for junior lawyers to focus on promoting the maintenance of positive mental health

In the first event of its kind, organised by three paralegals at the start of their careers, an evening of talks on well-being and resilience for junior lawyers has proven extremely popular, selling out all its tickets in just 48 hours.

The event will be hosted at Doughty Street Chambers; a set pioneering the prioritisation of well-being in the profession.
The event, aimed at addressing issues such as stress, workload and managing clients who have experienced trauma, will feature a panel discussion with prominent junior lawyers sharing their personal experiences, alongside practical tips on how individuals can manage their own well-being in response to working in a challenging environment.

Taking place on the 20 February, the event will also look at steps the profession as a whole can take to improve support for those experiencing mental ill-health or well-being issues going forward.

Speakers include Mary-Rachel McCabe, a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, Michael Etienne a tenant at No5 Chambers, Mollie Ferguson, a contentious probate solicitor at Thomson Snell & Passmore and Gimhani Eriyagolla, a solicitor in the civil liberties team at Hodge Jones & Allen.

The event is organised by Megan Finnis, a paralegal at Hodge Jones & Allen, Nancy Kelehar a paralegal from Hickman and Rose, and Frances McCormack, a paralegal, working for the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse.

Megan, who sits in the civil liberties team said: “It is really exciting to have helped organise an event seeking to address issues faced by so many in the legal profession.

“With increasing focus on mental health across society, we thought it was the perfect time to start facilitating discussions of this kind. We are looking forward to using this platform to share stories with other junior lawyers and learn from successful solicitors and barristers on how they protect their own well-being whilst continuing to provide an excellent client service.”
