Testimonial

"“Thank you very much for your help and support. I sincerely hope that I will not have to call on your services again but, should the need arise, I would have no hesitation in asking you to act for me.”"

What is family mediation?

Many couples going through separation would like to come to an amicable agreement surrounding their family, but find this difficult to achieve on their own. This is where an independent and trained mediator can help. Consisting of a series of discussions, our mediator will facilitate the meetings and encourage dialogue between the two parties, while remaining impartial. We don’t make any decisions or give legal advice, but help you to make arrangements and agree on any solutions in relation to children matters, property and money.

Why should I use a family mediator?

Ultimately it is less stressful for you, and less upsetting or damaging for any children involved than when trying to make your arrangements by yourself. It is also often quicker and cheaper than going to court, and means you make your own decisions rather than handing over control to a judge.

How can we help?

During family mediation, we will help you to:

  • Reduce tension and hostility
  • Encourage open and honest channels of communication
  • Provide the appropriate tools to make informed decisions

We are aware of the damage that can ensue for families engaged in the Court process, and we are committed to assisting you to work in mediation, no matter how difficult the situation or emotions.

What happens next?

After you get in touch:

  • One of our experienced and qualified family mediators will speak to each person over the phone and discuss if mediation is the most suitable process before arranging an initial appointment
  • We arrange approximately five or six sessions (it may be more or fewer) where we advise on a consultancy basis to allow you and your partner or former partner to sit face-to-face and explore options
  • If arrangements have been reached or both parties decide on certain options after discussions, we will draw up a confirmatory mediation document.

Before, during or after the mediation, it is open to either party to obtain independent legal advice. If you wish, your legal adviser can draft up a legally binding document.

Mediation can begin at any stage; even if you have already begun Court proceedings, it is not too late to commence family mediation.
