Remember, Remember the Pro Bono November

Every November, Pro Bono Week gives the legal sector a moment to pause and celebrate something very close to our hearts: giving free legal help to people who need it the most.

At Hodge Jones & Allen fighting for people’s rights and ensuring access to justice is not just an annual observance – it is embedded in the core values of the firm.

What is Pro Bono Work and why is it needed?

“Pro Bono” is short for the Latin phrase pro bono publico which means for the public good.

Pro bono is legal work undertaken voluntarily and free of charge to help individuals, charities or communities who may otherwise struggle to access legal advice or representation.

Whether that is someone facing a complex legal challenge, trying to understand their rights after an unexpected accident, or simply does not know were to turn, pro bono support offers a clear path forward. It ensures that justice is not just available to those who can afford it, but to everyone.

Pro Bono work is needed at present more than ever due to the increasing gap many fall in to as a result of the cost of living crisis and legal aid cuts. Pro Bono helps to eradicate this gap and acts as another option to allow people to seek legal advice regardless of their finances.

Partnerships with Universities to Give back & fight for your rights

The core of Hodge Jones & Allen stands strong that we believe all individuals should have access to justice irrespective of their means and this is shown by the work we do, such as providing free legal advice via Citizens advice, University law clinics and community groups.

Partner, Daniel Denton and our legal clerks in the Personal Injury department have been working with universities such as Brunel University, University College London and Keele University and expanding Legal Advice Clinic’s offering free legal advice to help those in need.

Through these legal advice clinics, members of the public can receive free, confidential initial guidance on personal injury concerns and other legal issues.

These clinics do two important things:-

  1. Help local communities: People get straightforward legal guidance when they feel lost or overwhelmed
  2. Train tomorrow’s lawyers: Law students get hands-on experience by listening to real cases and working alongside experienced legal professionals.

Remember, Remember the Pro Bono November

Pro Bono week is a great reminder of why many of us at Hodge Jones & Allen chose to pursue law in the first place: to fight against injustice, and act as a voice for those who otherwise may not be heard. .

We are proud to support Pro Bono week and the valuable work our team does with Universities.

Beyond the fireworks and bonfires, November gives our firm a moment to reflect on a core principle that drives us every single day – ensuring that access to justice is available to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Access to justice matters all year round. If you require legal advice and are unsure where to turn, our Personal Injury team may be able to help. To find out more about the support available, or to discuss your circumstances with one of our legal experts, call 0330 822 3451.
