Hodge Jones & Allen Sign Letter Seeking Assurances Regarding Covid-19 Public Inquiry
The letter written on behalf of a group of lawyers from 10 law firms representing Covid-19 victims and stakeholders was sent to Boris Johnson MP on Friday, 10 December. Victims and stakeholders represented included bereaved family groups, doctors, charities, community group and others personally affected by the pandemic. Nazir Afzal OBE, former Chief Crown Prosecutor is one of the signatories. He is represented by Mike Schwarz, Partner, at Hodge Jones & Allen.
In the light of new and continuing allegations of non-compliance by leading figures with the Covid regulations, Hodge Jones & Allen had earlier sent, on Mr Afzal’s behalf, a complementary and focused letter to the Prime Minster seeking reassurance that the Inquiry will rigorously examine the observation of Covid regulations by those charged with devising and securing the public’s observation of them and particularly the personal roles of ministers and other key figures in Government.
The letter to Boris Johnson is clear on 4 key requirements:
- The panel for the Covid-19 Inquiry will be selected in an open and transparent manner.
- The composition of the panel will reflect the diversity of the UK population but, more particularly the groups that have been most affected by coronavirus.
- An urgent public consultation takes place on the terms of reference for the Inquiry.
- A date for the start of the Inquiry will be set no later than April 2022
