Mesothelioma Sufferer Appeals For Information About Asbestos At Boosey & Hawkes In North London

Marisa Tufigno, who worked at the Boosey & Hawkes Factory in Edgware, North London between 1974 and 2002 appeals for information about suspected asbestos at the factory. Boosey and Hawkes, created in 1930 after a merger between Hawkes and Son and Boosey and Co, was probably the world’s most famous manufacturer of wind instruments, selling its instrument division in 2003 to focus solely on music publishing.

During her employment with the company, Marisa had different roles, working both in the stores and on the manufacture of instruments in the Brass Section. She and her co-workers worked at long benches, covered in a grey material, which she believes was asbestos sheeting. Later, Marisa moved into the company’s offices, carrying out administrative work.

Marisa recalls that the factory was dusty and pipes were suspended overhead from the ceiling.

Sadly, Marisa has since developed Mesothelioma, which she believes must have been caused by her exposure to asbestos at Boosey & Hawkes between 1974 and 2002 during her employment there.

Isobel Lovett, Partner and Head of the Asbestos & Workplace Illness Team at Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors, who is acting in this case, said:We would like to hear from other employees working at Boosey & Hawkes factory over the same time as our client. It could help her achieve justice for the condition that she has experienced through no fault of her own. Sadly, asbestos diseases are still affecting many people who worked in a job that they loved and yet find themselves affected by serious ill health due to exposure to asbestos which happened many decades ago. Information from witnesses who worked at Boosey & Hawkes could be helpful for her case and we urge former employees to come forward if they have information about asbestos materials at Boosey & Hawkes factory. Your details and information provided will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.”
