BAPO (The British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics) Awareness Campaign
I was given the opportunity to attend the BAPO Regional Conference in Oxford last month organised by Nicky Eddison Chair of The British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BAPO). This was an insightful event and my take away from the day was that “One size does not fit all”.
BAPO focused on exploring patient centred care through inspiring talks, innovative ideas and collaborative practice.
I was inspired by the keynote from Denise and Chris Arthey who were involved in a life changing road traffic accident whilst on a motorcycle trip in 2008. They both unfortunately lost their left legs above the knee as a result of a drunk driver who veered into their lane at 80mph colliding with them. After what was a long and painful recovery they were able to go back to vocations they both loved. They are now ambassadors for Blatchford who make their prostheses. Both Denise and Chris talked about how forgiveness and staying positive greatly improved the speed of their recovery.
BAPO’s Awareness Campaign runs until 31st August 2026 which brings patients, professionals, charities, stakeholders and industry together as One Voice.

The services of prosthetic and orthotic’s quietly underpins independence and mobility and quality of life for thousands of people across the UK. The campaign looks to raise awareness of the real value of these services and why they must be recognised, protected and supported.
As a firm who represent clients who have been involved in accidents that can be life changing, we know all too well that rehabilitation and treatment is key to helping our clients early. For our clients who are amputees as a result of an accident, the work in the area of prosthetics and orthotics is vital to give mobility and positivity to those who have been injured.
Whilst at the Regional Conference in Oxford my colleague Ruchi and I had the opportunity to catch up with Clifton from the Limbless Association at their exhibition stand. Hodge Jones and Allen joined the national and regional panels of the Limbless Association to enhance support for amputees across the UK. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to ensure that No Amputee Need Cope Alone.
The Limbless Association was established in 1983 and are dedicated to provide information, advice and support to amputees and their families and friends and professionals.
The work of BAPO and The Limbless Association are fundamental to make improvements and change the life’s of those that have suffered from amputation and at Hodge Jones & Allen we are privileged to raise the awareness of these great organisations.
