London Action Mesothelioma Day, Friday 7th July 2017
Posted on: 6th July 2017
This year’s London event has been set up by London Hazards Centre Trust in conjunction with the London Asbestos Support Awareness Group (LASAG), which is a new asbestos support group created to help people in London and the South East who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases.
The group was set up by The London Hazards Centre Trust Limited, a registered charity, established in 1984. The London Hazards Centre is a campaigning group and assists trade unions, tenant and other community groups on issues of health and safety across London. For a number of years, they have campaigned on asbestos safety issues.
Friday’s event will begin with a memorial service at The Guy’s Chapel at 10am followed immediately by a dove release. The remainder of the event will take place in the Gary Weston Library at Southwark Cathedral at 11am and will include talks by: Ian Jarrold, Head of Research at British Lung Foundation, speaking about funding and research into treatments for mesothelioma; Dr. Szlosarek, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, talking about immunotherapy treatment and drug trials; and Brendan Tully, a senior trial attorney from the United States, speaking about talcum powder and mesothelioma.
Marika Townsend, one of the LASAG specialist advisors to families affected by asbestos related health issues, said: “Action Mesothelioma Day is an important event for raising public awareness of this disease. For those who are currently suffering from the debilitating effects of mesothelioma, it provides hope by highlighting the research that is ongoing and the treatment options and support that are available to them.”
