Congrats to Just for Kids Law Charity; achieving another victory for young people!
Patrick Allen, Senior Partner at Hodge Jones & Allen has sent his congratulations and best wishes to the Just for kids law team, after their victorious week.
“It was fantastic to hear that all the team’s hard work has resulted in announcement in the Queen’s speech that ‘Keisa Law’ will be enacted. Their campaigning work via #stillachild@17campaign has worked and their changes will be met. A great victory for the obvious hard work their whole team have put in.”
The new Policing and Criminal Justice Bill, includes the following phrase promising “legislative consistency within the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) to ensure that 17 year olds are treated as children under all its provisions.” In particular, the Bill would ensure 17 year olds who are detained in police custody are treated as children for all purposes under PACE, including ensuring appropriate consent is granted by the 17 year old and their parent / legal guardian for a range of interventions, such as intimate searches.
Patrick went onto to comment on the recent selection of Shauneen Lambe and Aika Stephenson as two of the 67’Change Makers’ invited to take part in the 67 Change Makers: Festival of Love 2015. “The dedication of Shauneen and Aika and all in the Just for Kids Law Charity, is why all at Hodge Jones and Allen continue to support their work. They truly do have a positive impact on the lives of others.”
The Change Makers Festival took place over the weekend, at the Southbank Centre.
