About Rebecca Coates

Rebecca is a Partner in the Family Team, having joined the Firm as a Senior Associate in October 2023 and promoted to Partner in May 2025. She has trained as a collaborative lawyer and is a Resolution specialist in cohabitation/Schedule 1 matters and private children matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Rebecca was at a regional ranked firm. She has specialised in family law for the last 10 years and gained substantial experience and exposure.

Rebecca has specialised in family law throughout her career and has advised on a full range of family matters arising from the breakdown of a relationship between married couples, civil partners and unmarried couples. She has represented clients in complex financial cases (involving trusts and complicated business structures) often acting against partners in ranked firms. Her practice also extends to child arrangements and Family Law Act injunctions. This has included acting on behalf of parents in 16.4 cases and representing parties in cases requiring extensive Fact-Finding Hearings.

Rebecca is a firm believer in Non-Court Dispute Resolution and many of her matters settle at either arbitration or at a private Financial Dispute Resolution Hearing. She is a strong litigator if required.

Rebecca is a member of Resolution and has been recognised as a key lawyer in the Legal 500.

Notable Cases

Rebecca has acted for both Husbands and Wives in financial remedy proceedings which often require forensic accountants and substantive business assets. She has acted for Mothers and Fathers in highly contested Child Arrangements matters which involve serious allegations of harm.

Most recently, she has acted on behalf of a set in parents in a grandparent’s application for contact.
