January is notoriously a busy time for divorce lawyers as the Christmas festivities and New Year celebrations come to an end. Spending time with loved ones can sharpen our focus that actually you no longer want to be with the person you were in love with, all those years ago.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that the relationship has to end in an acrimonious way, sometimes it’s just that the relationship has run it’s a course. Many divorce couples are now turning to social media to celebrate the ending of their relationships using the hashtag #DivorceSelfie
A Canadian couple Sharon and Chris Neuman last week posted a photo of themselves smiling outside their court room when their divorce was finalised. The image went viral shared over 30,000 times with Sharon saying “are we smiling because the partner we chose forever turned out not to be the forever partner we needed? Of course not, we are smiling because we have done something extraordinary……[we] ended our marriage in a way that will allow us to go forward as parenting partners for our children, the perfect reason that this always WAS meant to be was, so that they will never have to choose.”
It is not always possible to remain friends with our ex-partners simply because of the emotions involved but, we can at least guide you through that quagmire, and even if you are not quite ready to involve social media in your breakup, there is always hope that a friendship can endure.
