Despite strong CCTV evidence, the client was cleared, preserving her employment and personal record.

Our client Miss S had been in court for assault on an emergency worker, having spat at police officers and inflicted criminal damage (urinating in a police cell).

The client was in custody for four days, went to the magistrates and took the matter to the Crown Court. She did not instruct us until after the Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing’ (PTPH) as she recalled that we had represented her before for the same offence and the crown did not proceed on the last occasion that we represented her.

The client spent time with lead solicitor Tosin Akinboboye explaining how she had been suffering from a mental health break at the time of her arrest, and that she had made threats of self-harm. She had been a victim of domestic violence and she was triggered by past experiences with police. At the time of her arrest she was also intoxicated so she could not remember much of what had happened to her.

Tosin instructed psychologists and psychiatrist for reports on her mental health at the time. Tosin further wrote two sets of in-depth representations and the prosecution offered no evidence on the first day of trial (21 October 2025). This was a positive result for her as the CCTV evidence was very strong. The client who has been working in security and has no previous convictions can continue working and maintain her good character.

Tosin commented on the outcome of the case: “It brings me such joy that the circumstances surrounding Miss S’s case were reviewed and taken into consideration and the correct outcome was achieved. Criminal defence is not just about legal arguments but standing beside clients such as Miss S and making sure her story is truly heard, and fairness is deployed in all aspects of her proceedings.”
