Acquittal of Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault and Common Assault

Mr Animesh Banerjee, a consultant ear nose and throat surgeon, was unanimously acquitted of allegations of sexual assault and common assault in under one hour at Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday 3 March 2015. The allegations were strenuously denied throughout the proceedings.

Mr Banerjee says “I am ecstatic that I have been exonerated. My family and friends have supported me throughout this difficult time and I would like to thank them and my legal team. I am looking forward to returning to work as a surgeon.”

Jennifer Siddorn solicitor for Mr Banerjee says “This case is a fantastic example of the jury system working at its best. It is important that the police and CPS fully investigate allegations including accounts put forward by defendants in interview before Defendants are charged.”

Jennifer Siddorn instructed Mark Cotter, barrister at 5 St Andrews Hill Chambers, to act as Mr Banerjee’s counsel.
