During my time as a trainee solicitor, I have been fortunate enough to gain experience in the relatively niche area...
I qualified as a solicitor in 2015 and joined the criminal defence department here at Hodge Jones & Allen, following the completion of my training contract at the firm.
I represent individuals accused of a breadth of offences ranging from assaults, sexual offences and fraud. I have been an accredited police station representative since 2012 and regularly advise individuals detained at the police station for interview. I am a keen advocate, representing clients at the Magistrates Court in respect of first appearances, sentences and trials. I have secured acquittals on cases including voyeurism and assault. I take a proactive approach from the beginning of the case and my representations to the Crown Prosecution have on multiple occasions led to the discontinuance of criminal proceedings prior to trial.
In addition to criminal defence, I am an integral member of the extradition team representing individuals whose extradition is sought by another country to face criminal proceedings. In this relatively niche area, I have built up a wealth of experience advising individuals at the initial stages of extradition through to appeal stage at the High Court. I regularly deal with requests from EU countries under the new regime of European Arrest Warrants and recently represented an individual sought by the Bulgarian authorities in what became the leading UK authority on Bulgarian prison conditions and the adequacy of assurances provided by the Bulgarian authorities. The case was heard by the High Court on appeal as to whether extradition would be in breach of the individual’s right under Article 3 European Convention of Human Rights (prohibition of inhumane and degrading treatment). I also work on the somewhat rarer ‘part 2’ cases, involving non EU countries and am currently instructed on a case involving a Kenyan extradition request.
In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit with gym classes and running, reading, cooking and going to the theatre.
