1. Consult a solicitor for straightforward legal advice - a solicitor will give an immediate view on your case prospects along with your likely outcome, the timescales involved and how much compensation you potentially could receive. The more serious the injury the longer a claim is likely to take.  
2. Letter of Claim - the solicitor will then send a ‘Letter of Claim’ to the defendant notifying them that you will be filing a claim for compensation.
3. Medical assessment - a solicitor will instruct an expert to assess your injury.
4. Losses incurred - a solicitor will prepare a schedule of losses (loss of earnings and pain and suffering).
5. Claim accepted/Claim disputed - the defendant will either accept responsibility or dispute the claim which would mean your case would go to court.
6. Case Lost/Case won
