Drug compensation

Drug compensation claims arising from prescribing and dispensing drugs

In the UK, drugs and pharmaceutical products are regulated by the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, (MHRA). According to the National Patient Safety Agency, around 40,000 medication prescription and dispensement errors are made every year. About 20% of these errors in drug administration cause considerable harm to patients, with 5% resulting in severe damage or even death.

Drug-related errors, such as overdoses, can be made by doctors when they prescribe medicines. Mistakes can also occur when pharmacists dispense drugs or when they are administered by nurses, care workers or others. Most of the drugs that the MHRA register are completely safe. However, sometimes even they get it wrong and drugs which are thought to be safe are found to have serious side effects or cause long-term damage. In such instances, we can look into a drug liability compensation claim.

If there is an area of doubt in the consistency of performance in a drug, this product will normally be withdrawn from the market. But what do you do if you are one of those people who have already suffered related health problems? Or what if you have been taking a drug which is still sanctioned by the MHRA but which has had unforeseen side effects?

You may feel that it is just you against the might of the pharmaceutical giants. But our clinical negligence lawyers at Hodge Jones & Allen can investigate your case and pursue a drug liability compensation claim for the distress and injury you have been caused.

If you or a relative has suffered from errors in medication you may be entitled to a drug compensation claim.
