Patients with MRSA bacteria infections often need antibiotics but
it can take a long time to clear a patient from the infection, thus
extending their recovery period considerably.
MRSA infections can spread between patients by
direct or indirect physical contact. Hospital staff that treat
patients with MRSA may themselves then pick up the MRSA bacterium,
carry it unknowingly and thereby run the risk of passing it on to
other patients they treat.
MRSA Symptoms
The majority of symptoms start as skin infections, such as a wound
that does not heal and develops into a boil or an abscess.
Infections can also be caught through a surgical wound. In either
case, the area would look:
- Swollen
- Pus filled
- Red &
- Painful
MRSA is far more serious when it enters the
blood stream, causing septicaemia. Septicaemia, a type
of infection, has the highest death rate. Symptoms include
high body temperature, shaking and organ failure.
