Robbie Williams and his new wife 'signed a pre-nuptial agreement'
16 Aug 2010
Reports have claimed that singer Robbie Williams signed a
pre-nuptial
agreement prior to his recent wedding to Ayda Field.
The Angels singer - who is thought to be worth in the region of GBP
80 million - wanted to protect his fortune in the event that the
marriage should fail and so secured the agreement before the
ceremony on August 8th 2010, according to the Sun.
However, the exact details of the agreement and the maximum
potential divorce payout have not been revealed.
Williams is now the 28th wealthiest person on the Sunday Times
Music Rich List thanks to his success as a member of Take That and
then as a solo artist afterwards.
He owns a GBP 8.5 million property in Britain as well as a mansion
in Los Angeles and also has a yacht and several classic cars.
It was recently reported that pre-nuptial agreements could become
legally binding in UK courts in a bid to make it easier for family
law solicitors to organise how assets should be split when a
divorce occurs.
They are not currently recognised in the UK, although a judge may
take them into account where they do exist.
A consultation paper to discuss the issue has been prepared by the
Law Commission.
Resolution spokesperson Sarah Anticoni recently said she thinks
pre-nups should be legally binding in UK courts as they are in the
US, as it would prevent lengthy divorce battles, particularly when
couples had their own assets before getting married.
