Lawyer in the News - Raj Chada
7th April 2011

Raj Chada, partner at Hodge Jones & Allen, has been named
'Lawyer in the News' in this week's
Law Society Gazette.
Raj Chada, a leading criminal defence
and protest law solicitor, is currently representing 17 of those
arrested at the anti-cuts protest in London on 26th March
2011. Despite claiming their actions were peaceful and
non-violent, our clients face charges of aggrevated trespass.
Last week, Raj raised concerns about
police procedure at the protest, describing it as "worrying and
bizarre".
In 2009, Raj successfully represented
the Space Hijackers, who were arrested at the G20 summit protests
in London.
Raj joined Hodge Jones & Allen in
1999, after previously working for Amnesty International. He was
made partner in 2002 and heads the Hodge Jones & Allen protest
law team.
The 'Lawyer in the News' column of the
weekly Law Society Gazette, distributed to every member of the Law
Society, features a solicitor who has had a prominent case
receiving media attention.
Last year, Hodge Jones & Allen
family
law solicitor
Toby Hales was featured in the column, after successfully
representing his client Philippa Vaughan, ex-wife of barrister
David Vaughan, who claimed a divorce settlement 25 years after the
couple split up.
A month earlier,
Jocelyn Cockburn, partner in the civil
liberties team was also featured, following her high profile
role during the Chilcot enquiry, representing victims' families of
Snatch Land Rovers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
