Law Society to host 2nd Annual Henry Hodge Memorial Lecture
Press release
31st May 2011
The second Henry Hodge Memorial lecture will be given on Monday
27th June 2011 at 6.30pm, at The Law Society’s Hall, Chancery Lane,
London WC1.
The lecture will be delivered by Baroness Hale of
Richmond DBE, QC. Baroness Hale is the first and only woman of
the 12 Law Lords.
The lecture is to honour the memory of Henry Hodge, a founding
partner of Hodge Jones & Allen solicitors and an eminent
solicitor who was committed throughout his professional life to the
cause of providing legal help for individuals suffering from
injustice. After retirement from HJA in 1999, Henry became a
Circuit Judge and in 2004 was appointed a High Court Judge and
President of the Immigration Appeal Tribunal. He was an
enthusiastic defender of the legal aid scheme and would have been
horrified to see to the cuts which the current Government proposes
to make to the scheme.
If you would like to attend, you need to RSVP to the Law Society at
corporateevents@lawsociety.org.uk
to reserve your place.

A few days ahead of this lecture,
Patrick Allen, Senior Partner of Hodge Jones & Allen LLP is
leading a team on the Three Peaks Challenge fund raising event in
memory of Henry and in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. A
team of 24 staff and guests from other legal firms and chambers
will be climbing the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales,
namely Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mt Snowdon on 16th June
2011.
Patrick comments: “Henry died of complications arising from
Leukaemia so we wish to raise funds for a charity which attempts to
improve the treatment and chances of recovery of patients such as
Henry.”
The team hopes to complete the ascent and descent of all three
peaks in 24 hours and aims to fundraise over £12,000 for the
charity.
