HJA launches compensation battle against Scotland
Yard
21st January 2010
Hodge Jones & Allen LLP (HJA) has today
launched a compensation battle against Scotland Yard after the
Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped charges against their
clients, the Space Hijackers.
The Space Hijackers drove an armoured vehicle
into the City of London and donned riot police-style helmets during
the G20 Summit on April Fool’s Day 2009. Eleven of the protestors
were arrested and charged with impersonating the police but the
charges were dropped today as new evidence came to light.
Raj
Chada, Partner at HJA is representing the Space Hijackers in
their compensation battle against the Metropolitan Police as they
fight to get their vehicle and equipment back. Raj said of the
developments:
“We are delighted that the CPS have at
last seen sense. This was always a ridiculous case and the CPS'
time and effort could have been better spent looking at bringing
prosecutions for potential police misconduct. Our clients are
looking forward to the return of their tank and we will be
considering what further action can be taken against the
police."
In a statement, they said the case was
"one of the most bizarre prosecutions" in recent years and
an "utter waste of taxpayers' money".
