HJA defends Libyan protestors
5th April 2011
Hodge Jones & Allen associate
Daniel Godden is currently representing two Libyan protestors,
arrested 17th March 2011 for trespassing on the Libyan embassy
roof.
On 16th March, the protestors scaled the embassy building
and climbed on to the roof. They then swapped
the official Libyan flag for one pre-dating Gaddafi’s rule, as a
gesture of support for the interim government and against Colonel
Gaddafi’s refusal to step down from power. The protestors
also wanted to express anger at the UN’s lengthy discussions
regarding establishing a no-fly zone over Libya.
After remaining on the roof for two days they were arrested by
the police and are being investigated for charges of trespass on a
diplomatic premises and conspiracy to commit criminal
damage.
