Hodge Jones & Allen lawyers cycle from London to Paris
Headway charity bike ride for Senior Partner and team
Hodge Jones
& Allen LLP senior partner Patrick Allen and fellow personal
injury partner Peter Todd, together with support staff Magdalena
Komoniewska and Alisha McCluskey have just completed a London to
Paris cycle ride. They left Greenwich early on Wednesday morning,
and in four days covered over 300 miles, reaching the finish line,
underneath the Eiffel Tower. This was to raise money for Headway -
the brain injury association, HJA's official charity of 2009.
In glorious September sunshine the cyclists passed through south
London and the oast houses of Kent on the English side, before
crossing the channel at Dover. They witnessed beautiful scenery and
historic battlegrounds, including historic Crécy and Agincourt and
the more recent landmarks and cemeteries of the first and second
world wars. On arrival in Paris, morale was high as they passed
famous sites including the Sacre Coeur and Arc de Triomphe, down
the Champs-Élysées towards the final goal.
Peter Todd, a keen cyclist and member of the London Cycling
Campaign was ready for the trip. He commented before the start:
"It will be a titanic cycle and a magnificent achievement when
we get there. However when you put it into perspective, the people
with brain injuries have much tougher challenges every day of their
lives."
On
completing the event, Camden resident,
Patrick Allen, who has cycled to work every day for over 30
years, was thrilled with the success: “It was a privilege to
ride through breath-taking scenery for a brilliant cause.”
Staff at the NW1 firm have already participated in a number of
fundraising initiatives for Headway this year, raising many
thousands of pounds, including a pancake day, band night, running
in the London marathon, the Engadin (Switz) ski-marathon, book and
cake sales, and a tandem sky-dive.
